SMTCL Horizontal Manual Lathe Machine
After the founding of the People's Republic of China, there was almost nothing available in the factory building of Shenyang No.1 Machinery Factory, and the production workshop was almost abandoned. The workers assembled a belt lathe by picking up spare parts. However, when a lathe driven by a belt is used to process parts, it will slip and "break the chain" when it comes to "being stubborn and demanding", and thus cannot perform deep processing. Therefore, developing and manufacturing their own ordinary lathes has become the dream of all the people at Shenyang No.1 Machinery Factory.
In 1953, Shenyang No.1 Machinery Factory was renamed Shenyang No.1 Machine Tool Factory (one of the predecessors of General Technology Shenyang Machine Tool) and was included in the 156 key projects of the country's "First Five-Year Plan". With the assistance of Soviet experts, Shenyang No.1 Machine Tool Factory began the design work of the first ordinary lathe in New China. They started from scratch to re-plan and rebuild the factory building. Just two years later, in August 1955, the ordinary lathe was successfully developed. After the first ordinary lathe, C620-1, was produced, the factory was in an uproar. Workers were all chattering away, saying things like "This one was made by me" and "that one was done by me", arguing until their faces turned red. Everyone was truly proud and honored! Although it has just been able to produce lathes by itself, Shenyang No.1 Machine Tool Factory has not been careless at all in setting standards. It has formulated a total of 18 inspection indicators, including precision and so on. At that time, the machine tool was too noisy, so the factory added grinding gears and ground the gears again. With this meticulous spirit, the precision of the C620-1 ordinary lathe can reach world-class standards. After mass production, it was in short supply for a long time. In 1955, 202 units were produced in the year of its development. In 1957, the output reached 2,540 units, and in 1960, it reached 4,573 units. Such a batch size was unique in the country at that time and was even exported abroad at one point.
It is worth mentioning that this ordinary lathe was also printed as a prototype on the second set of RMB in China. The third set of RMB after the founding of the People's Republic of China was issued in the 1960s. The front of the two-yuan banknote features a "lathe operator", and the "lathe" operated by the "worker" is precisely the first C620-1 ordinary lathe developed by Shenyang No.1 Machine Tool Factory in 1955, which was the first of its kind in New China.
Next, Shenyang No.1 Machine Tool Factory successfully cast the first metal national emblem of New China and developed the first CNC lathe of New China. Meanwhile, Shenyang No.5 Machinery Factory (the predecessor of Sino-Czech Friendship Factory) developed the first radial drilling machine and the first horizontal boring machine in New China, and Shenyang No.3 Machine Tool Factory developed the first multi-axis automatic lathe in New China, etc. All these "firsts" and the products derived from them have achieved mass production. Factories in many vital sectors of the national economy, such as steel, machinery, transportation, and energy, have adopted them as industrial mother machines. The 6-foot belt lathe was used in the production of firearms during the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea. The radial drilling machine is mainly applied in industries such as boilers, Bridges, locomotives and vehicles, and shipbuilding. Horizontal boring machines are used by Ansteel for rolling seamless steel pipes and by FAW for manufacturing auto parts, etc. After the multi-axis automatic lathe was successfully developed, it was put into small-scale production. Due to its characteristics such as high efficiency, automation and consistent precision, it has been widely adopted by industrial sectors such as automobiles, bearings and hydraulic components...
In recent years, General Technology Shenyang Machine Tool has actively undertaken various major national projects, taken on the construction of the machine tool industry chain, and has cumulatively undertaken 26 core and key projects, totaling 81 sets. It has been successively included in the "Science and Technology Innovation China" list of key technologies for breaking through shortcomings, and has won multiple titles such as the "Outstanding Innovation Team of the Machinery Industry" and "Leading Talent in Scientific and Technological Innovation" of the China Machinery Industry Federation.
